RYA/MCA VHF/DSC Short Range Certificate Course
International Law requires the Operator of Marine VHF/DSC Radio to hold an SRC OPERATORS CERTIFICATE

Marine VHF/DSC radio is the best way of summoning help. You can contact the coastguard up to 50 miles off-shore and talk to other yachts 15 to 20 miles away on the open sea.

Following this 1 day course you will be a competent radio operator and know the correct procedures for making distress, urgency and safety calls by means of marine VHF/ DSC radio, and much more.

During instruction we will be using our own internal connected Icom radio system and Lightmaster software.

Previous Knowledge required:

    Pre-course study. This course contains a very full syllabus so pre–reading is recommended. To assist, we will in advance of the course supply you with a RYA text book.

    • Channels (simplex & duplex)
    • VHF communication range
  • VHF/DSC (Digital Selective Calling)
    • Distress, Safety and Routine Calling
    • MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) numbers
  • Ships radio licence and radio regulations
  • Voice procedures
    • Maydays, Pan-Pans etc.
  • NAVTEX
    • MSI (Martine Safety Information) broadcasts
    • Stations
  • Portable safety equipment
    • EPIRB (Emergency Positioning Indication Radio Beacons)
    • SARTs (Search & Rescue radar Transponders)

Certificate Awarded:

    RYA/MCA VHF/DSC Short Range Certificate.

    To qualify for the SRC certificate you will have to complete a short assessment test at the end of the course.

Whats included:

    All tuition, a text book, tea/coffee throughout the day and the certificate.

    What you need to bring: One passport size photograph for inclusion in the certificate. Something for lunch (because this is a full course, lunch breaks cannot exceed 30 mins).

    (The certificate is issued in the UK by the RYA/MCA and then posted back to you. The fee for the issue etc is equivalent to £25 Sterling, this is included in the total course cost).
